Samartha Ramdas Swami

Chi. Narayan Krishnajipant Thosar, son of Suryajipant and Sau. Ranubai, was born in village 'Jamb' on Chaitra Shuddha 9, Shake 1530 as celebrated as 'Ram Navami' in entire world.

Since his childhood, he was fond of exercise and performing prayer for 'Maruti'. When his marriage ceremony was in progress, he heard the word 'Savadhan' in 'Mangalashtak', he run away from that ceremony and further program of marriage could not be completed.

Thereafter on Magh Shuddha 7, Shake 1542, he started meditation and ''Punacharan' of 13 crore 'mantra' for Lord Ramachandra' at village 'Takali' near Nasik every day continuously for 12 years by standing in the river Godavari with Nandini till mid-day. After this 'mantrajap', he used to go for 'madhukari' to save his life, physical body. After completion of this 'Tapacharya' 'Punacharan', he started to visit, travel for entire 'Aryavarta', our country where he saw the pilgrims, villages and villagers, the rulers and their fashion, mode with their subjects and decided to encourage the people for physical exercise, keeping in the mind that 'Strength Prevails'.

He returned in Maharashtra and decided that 'Balopasana' is very important as 'Healthy body carries healthy mind'. One of the step to achieve this target, he established the 11 temples of the 'God of Strength - Lord Hanuman' for inspiration to the people, youth. 'Hanuman' is the idol of 'Strength' and at the same time He is also known for his service with 'Lord Ramachandra'

As his continuous thoughtful efforts for encouraging the people to achieve the target to make 'Strengthen Generation' for 'Powerful Society with Powerful Mind', those thoughts became the attraction for people at large, especially for the young generation and proved to be changing circumstance, beneficial for our society ultimately resulted in improving number of people and increasing followers of his ideology and started to call his ideology as 'Ramadasi Sampraday' and his followers as 'Ramdasi'.

His service, his followers and his ideology was very much impressed to 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj' who is also performing his duty towards the society for establishing 'Hindavi Samrajya' and protection for 'Hindutva' that ultimately resulted with the several battles, wars with the then 'Rulers - Padshahis' and unfortunately he had to face with ours. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj being 'Shisya' of 'Samartha Ramdas Swami' got several times important inspirations, ways to approach and also support through his 'Shishya Sampradaya' and followers. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj offered 'Sajjangad' as residence for 'Samartha Ramdas Swami' where he stayed till his completion of 'avatar' as on Magh Vadya 9, Shake 1603 (Das Navami).

The literature of 'Samartha Ramdas Swami' is rather difficult to learn and follow in our life, though very useful for improving our life. The 'Grantharaj - Dasbodh' is the culmination of his writings. 'Manache Shloka', 'Aaratyas' of our Gods, 'Abhangas', 'Strotras of Hanuman', 'Karunastake' 'Panchake' etc.

This pair of 'Guru - Shishya' as 'Samartha Ramdas Swami - Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj' gave our society hugely that we are unable to return at anytime in spite of our repeated births.
